Duhok, Kurdistan Region – On October 29, the College of Nursing at the American University of Kurdistan has formalized a new partnership to strengthen clinical learning opportunities for nursing students through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Zakho Autism Center. The MoU was signed by Dr. Randall Rhodes, President of the American University of Kurdistan, and Mr. Shakir Mahmood Mohammad, Head of the Zakho Autism Center. This partnership provides nursing students, particularly those focusing on Mental Health Nursing, with access to hands-on clinical experiences working with individuals on the autism spectrum. Students will gain valuable skills in assessment, communication, therapeutic intervention, and family-centered care in a community-based setting, enhancing their preparedness to address diverse developmental and behavioral needs. The collaboration aligns with AUK’s mission to expand high-quality experiential learning opportunities and build strong community partnerships. By engaging with specialized centers such as Zakho Autism Center, the College of Nursing continues to prepare future professionals who are knowledgeable, compassionate, and equipped to provide inclusive and holistic mental health care.
